Ithaca, NY (WENY) — The Tompkins County Area Transit is moving into the future as they prepare to unveil the new electric buses.
California-based Proterra delivered seven of their 40 ft. buses to TCAT last month. They will be unveiling the new buses on Thursday, April 22nd which also happens to be Earth Day. Each bus runs about a million dollars apiece and funding came from multiple sources including, federal, state, and local.
“Earth Day is a fitting day for us to celebrate this important TCAT milestone and marks our community’s long-standing commitment toward lowering carbon emissions, and we have many people to thank for that,” Scott Vanderpool, the General Manager of TCAT said. “TCAT’s aim is to transform what is now a mostly diesel-powered fleet to all-electric by 2035 and this day represents our first steps toward meeting that goal, thanks to the help of many of our stakeholders and supporters.”
TCAT will be hosting a small ceremony to unveil the new buses at the Bernie Milton Pavilion, right near the Seneca St., station.
